About AC3R

The Amsterdam Center of Excellence in Risk, Resilience and Regulation (AC3R) is a new interdisciplinary collaboration between the Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE), the Amsterdam Business School (ABS) and the Amsterdam Law School (ALS). AC3R consolidates and significantly enhances existing collaborations between scholars from the three schools and two faculties and strengthens active collaboration with external parties. AC3R was formally established on January 1, 2025.

Twenty-first century global crises – whether financial-economic, environmental, technological or epidemiological – call for a convergence and integration of approaches and methodologies to develop a better understanding of and response to the modern threats to society.

AC3R conducts world-class fundamental research on three interrelated themes: (i) twenty-first century risks; (ii) socio-economic and financial resilience; and (iii) economic and financial regulation.

AC3R: “AC3R is the Amsterdam Center of Excellence in Risk, Resilience, and Regulation. We investigate how the society, economy and law can handle modern risks.”

Unique: “AC3R connects the sciences, economics and law in groundbreaking interdisciplinary research on 21st-century risks. Together with leading societal and international partners, we work on solutions for complex major challenges.”

Overall aim: “Understanding 21st-century risks and fostering resilience is quintessential for the viability of modern societies and economies.”
